Coronavirus: why the almost 13 thousand cases of today 'are less' than the 8 thousand of yesterday

The positivity rate dropped overnight from 20 percent to 14 percent. The big difference is that there were more than twice as many tests, which were in decline.

The national government has installed in recent days that the data of

positivity

in the pandemic is not too relevant.

What happened this Friday with the registered cases of

coronavirus show

that it is

a very important data

to take into account.

It is impressive to see that suddenly there were almost

13 thousand infections in 24 hours

.

However, this data comes hand in hand with another: there were more than

88 thousand

tests.

How much did the tests grow between Thursday and Friday?

118 percent

.

How much did the cases go up between Thursday and Friday?

56 percent.

In other words, the increase in tests was

double

that of cases.

Does that mean the cases exploded?

No, quite the opposite.

Yesterday there were many cases that

could not be detected

because sufficient tests had not been done.

Thursday's positivity was high, at

20 percent

.

The positivity of this Friday was much lower:

14.7 percent

.

This last figure is closer to the positivity of February than the one that had been during the last days of March.

The 13 thousand cases in a day are

a concern

, but at the same time they can serve as a

coup

for people to regain awareness of care, or be the tool that justifies

new restrictions

, such as those implemented at the borders to prevent new variants of coronavirus from entering.

That is, it must be taken into account that yesterday or the day before there were no fewer cases of coronavirus than there were in the last 24 hours.

What happened was that the provinces carried out

more tests and consequently the final count was higher.

For the World Health Organization, an adequate level of positivity should be around

10 percent

: if you give more, it means that little is being tested.

If it gives less, it is being tested badly.

Some experts believe that testing a lot and anywhere is useless, that this is wasting resources.

However, the positive cases surveyed this Friday give the guideline that the deficit of tests in Argentina

still has plenty of cloth

to start incurring in that waste.

How was the positivity coming in the last few months?

In November, when the country had already passed the peak of the first wave, the positivity still hovered around

33 percent

.

In December it had started to decline sharply: the average stood at

19 percent

.

But there was a resurgence towards the end of the year, so that the positivity rate in January climbed to

22 percent

, then fell to its lowest level since the pandemic began: in February it was

12.3 percent

.

Already in March a change in trend is seen again and the rate was now around

17 percent and on the rise.

That data was accompanied by another striking and worrying one: the number of tests carried out from January until now

had fallen by 15 percent

.

They went from a weekly average of 332 thousand to 283 thousand.

We will have to see how these figures continue in the coming days to see if there is a change in trend.

The largest number of Covid cases this Friday are explained above all by those registered in the province of Buenos Aires.

There were

5,686

cases counted, against 3,702 on Thursday.

This is 53 percent more.

In the Federal Capital there were

1,405

, just 9 cases more than the previous day.
