Covid-19: fear of a two-speed ferry

Two and a half months before the grand oral and the philosophy test, the high school students fear that their diploma will be devalued because of the continuous assessment.

We must save the baccalaureate!

Since the announcement in mid-January of the transition to continuous control of specialty tests, fears have been increasing.

Only the grand oral and the philosophy test should be held "under normal conditions", hoped Jean-Michel Blanquer in the Parisian, March 13, counting on "a more relaxed health situation" in June.

80% of the marks will therefore be in the continuous assessment, the teachers evaluating their own students.

Main grievance against this bac under Covid: without a real national framework, the 750,000 candidates will get unequal "local baccalaureate", depending on whether they have studied at Louis-le-Grand or in a less highly rated establishment.

"This will penalize the most disadvantaged, the most precarious, at the time of selection in higher education or with an employer, who will look at where the high school student comes from", plague Matthieu Devlaminck, president of the National Union of high school students (ONE).

"Eliminate inequalities"

Factor aggravating the inequality in view of the face-to-face tests: the very different preparation conditions between high schools.

Because if 70% of the establishments operate in hybrid - that is to say partly in distance to limit the mixing -, others, in particular private, maintain the face-to-face to 100%.

To compensate for this risk, National Education relies on two tools, specially designed this year to "erase inequalities", summarizes Edouard Geffray, director general of school education.

First, an "evaluation guide" for teachers, aimed at briefing, subject by subject, "what is expected of a final year student in the perspective of the bac".

Second tool: methodological reference sheets for harmonization panels.

“The idea is to take a step back, see for each high school if the grades are stable with previous promos.

If there are too large gaps, we harmonize one or two points, ”summarizes Edouard Geffray.

Who recalls that these jury "already exist", but that "for the first time, we give them a national framework".
