The 2023 Tour de France will start from Bilbao, in the Basque Country, as announced by the organizers.
The grand boucle will celebrate its 110th anniversary starting from Spain for the second time in its history after the start from San Sebastian in 1992. The opening stage will take place entirely in Bilbao, on a street circuit;
the second stage will also remain within the borders of the Basque Country, while the third will bring cyclists to French territory.
It will be the 25th time that the Tour starts from a location outside the French borders, in most cases (6) it started from Holland, five from Belgium, four from Germany.
