Good news for the vaccination campaign in Europe.

The EMA said in a statement to have "issued a positive opinion to allow the transport and storage of the vials of this vaccine at temperatures between -25 and -15 ° C (that is to say the temperature of freezers standard pharmaceuticals) for a single period of two weeks ”.

"This is an alternative to long-term storage of the vials at a temperature between -90 and -60 ° C in special freezers," the agency added.

"This should facilitate the rapid deployment and distribution of the vaccine in the EU by reducing the need for very low temperature cold storage conditions throughout the supply chain," explained the EMA.

The EMA is thus following in the footsteps of the American Medicines Agency (FDA), which in February authorized the storage of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Pfizer / BioNTech alliance at freezer temperatures.

Since its introduction, the high efficacy of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine has been tempered by the difficulty of storing and transporting the vials due to the need for extremely cold storage conditions.
