The situation on the US southern border has been worsening for weeks, with more and more people from Latin America trying to immigrate to the US.
Thousands of minors are already in the care of the US authorities.
Now a nine-year-old child from Mexico has died trying to cross the border river Rio Grande.
According to matching media reports, the girl was found on Saturday with a woman from Guatemala and another three-year-old child on an island in the Rio Grande, but the US border protection agency only made the incident public today.
All three people were unconscious when they were found.
Resuscitation attempts were therefore unsuccessful in the nine-year-old.
USA intercepted 100,000 people in February alone
In the past five months, the border guard had to rescue around 500 migrants from dangerous situations.
Since US President Joe Biden took office, the number of migrants from Central America has increased significantly.
In February alone, more than 100,000 migrants were intercepted on the border with Mexico.
While adults and families apprehended at the border continue to be sent back to Mexico, unaccompanied minors and some families with young children are allowed to enter the United States.
US President Biden recently tasked his deputy Kamala Harris with finding diplomatic ways to prevent more people from heading to the USA.
The White House recently published a notice that said, "This is not the time to come."
The opposition Republicans accuse Biden of being responsible for the increased migration movement.
The president rejected the criticism on Thursday.
It is a seasonal increase in migrant numbers between January and March, he said.
