The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Friday
another 143 deaths and 12,936 new cases
of coronavirus throughout the country.
Thus, Argentina has already reached 55,235 fatalities and 2,291,051 infections since the detection of the first positive in the national territory, just over a year ago.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, announced that the application of the second doses of the vaccines against Covid-19 will be deferred for three months.
This was agreed in a meeting with their peers from the 24 jurisdictions.
As explained, the objective of this measure aims to
"protect the greatest number of people
with some risk condition, as soon as possible and reduce the impact of deaths from this disease."
The decision is based on the recommendation of the working group of the National Immunization Commission and aims to
inoculate as many
people as
possible
with the first dose to maximize the benefits of vaccination and reduce the impact of hospitalizations and mortality from this cause. .
"Yesterday Conain endorsed - in this context - prioritizing the application of the first dose to as many people as possible with the aim of minimizing mortality, and deferring the second dose for three months," said Vizzotti.
And he added that the decision is based “not only on
scientific evidence,
but on favoring equity in access and, of course, permanently reviewing all new information and continuing with the efforts to have more doses as soon as possible and, thus , comply with the complete scheme as quickly as possible ”.
After considering the epidemiological situation, the scarcity and global inequity in the distribution of vaccines, the appearance of variants and the scientific evidence, the experts recommended three strategies: Defer the second doses of any of the vaccines currently available in our country -Sputnik V, Covishield / ChadOx-1 and Sinopharm- at a minimum interval of 12 weeks from the first dose.
After 3 months of the first dose, it is suggested to apply the second dose in a staggered manner, prioritizing the population with the highest risk of severe disease (over 60 and people between 18 and 59 years with risk factors) to complete the scheme. .
In addition, given the situation of health personnel, including those who are licensed, it is recommended to complete schemes with conventional interval, in those who carry out healthcare activity and with high risk exposure or who handle clinical samples.
In those people with a confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus, according to the definition of the Ministry of Health, it is proposed to postpone the application of the first dose of vaccine between three and six months after discharge from the clinic.
