An analysis of job advertisements shows: Most companies only advertise a home office option for a limited period.
Will we all go back to the office after Corona?
Commute less, work effectively: Anyone who was happy that home office, thanks to Corona *, has now also convinced the last skeptical boss, must now be strong: Home office is currently mainly offered for a limited period in job advertisements.
This is shown by a current analysis of the Indeed job portal.
Home office: Companies plan to offer home work only for a limited period
As the experts of the job portal have found out, two-thirds (67 percent) of the job advertisements currently posted directly on Indeed are
only able to offer work from home for the duration of Corona
.
The job portal came to this conclusion because it has been asking employers in a job advertisement since April 2020 whether home office is generally possible for the respective job or only "temporarily due to Covid-19".
The fact that working from home is no alternative to the office for most employers is also shown by a recent survey by the Institute for the German Economy, according to which
only around six percent of companies want to reduce office space.
The trend towards the temporary home office option apparently follows the lockdown measures imposed in the last twelve months, as Indeed explains in a press release: Since more companies are currently advertising jobs with home office options (not least due to the regulation for more home offices from the Federal Ministry of Labor) naturally, the proportion of offers that are only temporarily planned in the home office increases.
Another possible interpretation, according to Indeed, is that companies are already starting
to plan
for the
time after the pandemic and the return to the office
.
The supply and demand for home offices is increasing
Nevertheless: Home office is still experiencing a high altitude in Germany.
According to Indeed, the proportion of job
postings
with the
home office option is currently eight percent
(February 2021) and has doubled compared to the previous year.
Working people also want more work in the home office.
A recent survey of Indeed users found that more than 60 percent of professionals would
spend
at least half of their working hours
at home in the
future
.
It is therefore questionable whether employers will be successful in their endeavors to limit the home office option.
The office - not an obsolete model?
“The office will certainly not die out,” says Frank Hensgens, Managing Director at Indeed.
“It
will remain important
as a
place for encounters, for exchange and for strengthening
solidarity.
But employers will have a hard time
turning
the wheel back after Corona. ”
