Like every year in the spring, this year again, we change the time on the last weekend of March, to better adjust to the lengthening of the days.
So, on the night of March 27 to 28, at 2 a.m., it will suddenly be 3 a.m.
You will lose an hour of sleep, but in return, you will benefit from an hour more light at the end of the day.
This is also the purpose of these seasonal time changes: to follow the sun as best as possible to save energy and electricity, especially after the oil shock of 1973-1974.
From 1998, the times and dates of change have been harmonized among all member countries of the European Union, for greater consistency.
With the change of time, one hour less sleep
If the time change has a historical reason, and initially allowed energy savings, its relevance has been questioned over the years, and in 2019, MEPs voted for its abolition.
It only remained to decide which time to adopt definitively: summer time, or winter time.
This decision was to be taken in 2020, and the last time changes were to be made in 2021, but the European Commission has had other priorities in recent months, health situation requires, and the time change will therefore continue. some times.
This is why we are switching to daylight saving time again this year, and why we will probably switch to winter time on the last Sunday in October again.
So, on the weekend of March 27 to 28, 2021, don't forget to set your records right!
