 - LUNANO, 27 MAR - An ancient furnace, perhaps from the Middle Ages or even older, came to light during excavations in Lunano, in the province of Pesaro-Urbino.

This was confirmed by ANSA by the Archaeological Superintendence of Fine Arts and Landscape of the Marche.

The finds, near Piazza delle Libertà, resurfaced following the works to replace the water network carried out by Marche Multiservizi.

"Thanks to the presence of professional archaeologists on site, the work of laying the new water conduit made it possible to excavate and document this ancient furnace", explain the Superintendence.

"This is the underground portion of a furnace - he adds - probably used for cooking ceramic, consisting of a rectangular space with comb-shaped lateral pillars that supported the cooking chamber, which was not preserved".

"We also recognize the 'praefurnium', the opening that allowed the loading and the combustion necessary for the functioning of the furnace", explain the archaeologists who underline how, "at the moment it is not easy to propose an exact dating of the structure, which could be of medieval age or even older ".

The remains of the furnace, which emerged at a shallow depth, were protected with the appropriate precautions and proceeded with their backfilling, to allow the next restoration of the regular road network.
