Radio France launches a musical competition for young artists

2021-03-28T06:16:24.027Z

Called "Sing 20 years in 21", the initiative is "an outstretched hand" to young people and budding artists, who suffer from a cruel lack of visibility in these times of pandemic.

To be twenty years old in 2021. Quite a challenge that Radio France wishes to submit to young composers and performers.

In the continuity of its "HyperNuit", the House of Radio and Music announced, in a press release published on Wednesday March 24, the launch of a competition, called "Sing 20 years in 21", intended for artists of eighteen to twenty-five years,

"invited to submit a song (audio or video) around the theme" To be 20 years old in 2021 ""

.

Between April 12 and 30, 2021, competitors will have the opportunity to submit, on the RiffX platform - headed by Crédit Mutuel, which also finances the competition -, a composition of 2 minutes 30 to 4 minutes, including the text, in French, will have to

"tell the daily newspaper, the aspirations, the dreams"

and try to pose a

"glance on a world which has changed so much in the space of a year"

, specifies the document.

A first selection will be made by a jury made up of music directors from each of the branches involved in the project - France Bleu, Fip, France Inter, Le Mouv ', France Musique - and five musical delegates, in charge of the regions.

Ten finalists will be nominated and their productions submitted to a second vote, on a par between the public and the jury.

The winner will be announced on June 21, the day of the Music Festival, in a face-to-face event if the health situation allows it.

"Generational anthem"

"It was terrible to be twenty years old in 2020, it is just as much in 2021"

, notes, bitter, the musical director of the round House antennas, Didier Varrod, also at the origin of the project.

Especially for budding singers, for whom

"it is impossible to be visible"

in these pandemic times.

An untenable situation, including for label composers:

“Record companies are in the process of awarding contracts.

I know artists who are changing their profession! ”

, protested the former host, adding hope that this initiative will be

"a hand extended to young artists who no longer have the opportunity to create links with an audience"

.

By leaving a fortnightly shooting window, Varrod hopes that publishers, with catalogs supplied of musicians awaiting their first recording, will push their recruits to compete.

Especially since

"the jury will take into account technical difficulties, which is why it is possible to send only an audio file"

.

The material used will therefore not be a constraint for the participants, on the contrary.

“Remember that Dominique A's first album was recorded in his bedroom, with the means at hand.

Constrained minimalism can also be the way to be good and creative. ”

Finally, the winner will benefit from special visibility on public radio stations, aid of € 4,500 awarded by Sacem, which supports the project, as well as privileged access to its services (membership, deposit of 'artwork…).

But above all, he will have the privilege of performing his song during the

Nouvelle Scène

concert

, organized by the Round House, in September 2021. The opportunity to come together around a

"sort of generational hymn"

.
