His fantasy book series "The Song of Ice and Fire" was already a great success, only topped by the hype surrounding the eight seasons of the series adaptation "Game of Thrones".

A good one and a half years ago it was announced that a series planned for 2022 would tell the story of the saga.

But that's obviously not enough: As the industry magazine "The Hollywood Reporter" reported on Friday, HBO has committed the author George RR Martin to itself for the long term.

Accordingly, Martin is said to have signed a five-year contract and received a sum in the mid eight-digit range.

"House of the Dragon", the series about what happened 300 years before the power struggles in Westeros and Essos, is just one of apparently five projects from the world of "The Song of Ice and Fire".

According to the report, Martin is also developing the fantasy series "Who Fears Death" for HBO, based on the debut of the same name by Nnedi Okorafor, and "Roadmarks" based on the 1979 fantasy novel by Roger Zelazny.

No further details were given.

In addition, fans are still waiting for the planned volumes six and seven of "The Song of Ice and Fire".

HBO made the first deal with Martin in 2007. An extremely profitable partnership that gave the US cable broadcaster Game of Thrones its greatest series success - both commercially and with critics - and made Martin one of the most famous authors in the world should.
