Matteo De Bonis, rider of Vini Zabù, tested positive at the Epo, on the occasion of an out-of-competition check carried out on February 16th. This was announced by the International Cycling Union. The rider has been 'tested' by ITA, the reference agency for the fight against doping, to which the UCI has entrusted itself since January 1st of this year. De Bonis was immediately suspended from competitive activity, waiting for him to ask - as is his rights - for counter-analyzes. The UCI, in a note, recalls that, for Vini Zabù, this is the second case of positivity, after the one announced on 22 October 2020 and which involved Matteo Spreafico in the Giro d'Italia. In light of these positive aspects, based on Article 11.3.1 of the Anti-Doping Regulations - which provides for the suspension of the team for a period ranging from 15 to 45 days - the UCI has requested the intervention of the Disciplinary Commission. At this point, Vini Zabù risks being excluded from the Giro d'Italia which will start on 8 May (in less than 40 days), to which the team has been admitted with a wild-card.
