2021-03-30T12:58:31.322Z

About thirty films, series and documentaries will be published or produced in France in 2021. On the program, the sequel to the hit “Lupine”, a film by Dany Boon or a documentary series on Johnny Hallyday.

"Put a boost"

, here is how Netflix describes its French production strategy.

By announcing the production or launch of 27 original content created in France - all genres included - the video-on-demand giant is continuing its conquest of French consumers.

An already successful foray since Netflix claimed in January 2020 to have 6.7 million subscribers in the country.

To touch more with its local content, the brand relies on “

an identified cast”,

stars

“capable of speaking to all French people

”, as explained by Damien Couvreur, director of the original series Netflix France.

At the head of the bill we find personalities like the actress Mélanie Laurent, protagonist of the feature film

Oxygène

directed by Alexandre Aja.

We can also watch a comedy by Dany Boon, expected at the end of the year.

The film named

8 Rue de l'Humanité will

tell the upset life of Parisians during confinement.

For espionage enthusiasts,

The Last Mercenary

is planned this year, with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alban Ivanov and Assa Sylla.

A docu-series

La part du feu

Still in a docu-series,

The amount of the investment remains unknown

With 27 French productions, Netflix offers seven more national content than last year, and seventeen more than what its competitor Amazon Prime video announced a few weeks ago.

The manufacturer remains discreet and refuses to communicate the amount of investments in its French productions, except that they are

"in a phase of growth"

.

And for good reason.

The streaming giants will, from this summer, be forced by law to allocate 20 to 25% of their French turnover to production, which would represent for Netflix an amount between 150 and 200 million euros. per year according to the calculations of the Ministry of Culture.

But if the giant intends to comply with legislative requirements, it wishes in return to benefit from public funding.

Netflix informed the European Commission that it considered “

discriminating

” the fact that access to the audiovisual tax credit and aid for the creation of the CNC be reserved only for productions pre-financed by a French broadcaster.
