A car driver fell vertically into a stream in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the police, the 18-year-old was on a main road near Neunkirchen-Seelscheid on Monday when he turned off the road in a left turn.
According to the police, the car hit a guardrail and was thrown into the embankment of a stream.
The car came to a vertical stop in the water.
Climbed out of the wreck himself
The 18-year-old climbed out of the wreck on his own, but was then transported to a hospital injured, it said.
The alarmed fire brigade had set up oil barriers in the creek because liquids had leaked from the badly damaged vehicle.
It is being investigated whether excessive speed or distraction by a smartphone were responsible for the accident, according to the police.
The driver himself stated that he was not too fast.
