"Gloria": "I am the terror of my neighborhood", laughs Barbara Schulz

2021-03-31T16:05:30.512Z

In the fiction that ends this Thursday evening on TF1, facing Cécile Bois, the actress plays a wounded woman ready to do anything to get revenge.

A face without make-up, hard under her cropped raven-colored bangs.

Gendarme and woman injured since she lost custody of her children, Marianne sinks but clings to her job.

When the husband of Gloria (Cécile Bois), the lawyer whom she considers responsible for her sad fate, disappears, the investigator sees red and crosses the yellow line to take revenge ... A character not really sympathetic of the series "Gloria" , whose final is broadcast this Thursday evening on TF 1 at 9:05 p.m., and which stands out in the list of roles entrusted to Barbara Schulz, 48 years old.

Nasty interview with a nice girl.

How did you prepare to play as this woman who will do anything for revenge?

BARBARA SCHULZ.

Everything starts from the human.

It doesn't matter whether Marianne is a cop or a cheese maker.

She's just a woman.

Often we load the mule by adding solemnity, emphasis.

However, when I was able to meet female police officers, I would never have guessed that they were cops if I had passed them on the subway or at a dinner party.

In "Gloria", Marianne is not impartial but she is not malicious: she reacts viscerally.

Playing characters who never cross the line is not interesting.

This is the tipping point that it is exciting to explore.

Jubilant?

There is nothing more annoying than playing Snow White, or a heroine with a big heart, solar, who keeps a smile in the face of adversity and is so courageous… I was surprised that I was offered this role nasty.

Finally, a part of me is expressed and people will realize my true nature

(she bursts out laughing)

!

It allows me to play something else because you cannot say that I have often had roles of authority and cowards.

How far would you be willing to go to defend yourself if you were attacked?

I am the terror of my neighborhood because I chase people who do not collect their dog's poop and that puts my children to shame!

I have a lot of trouble with injustice, incivility.

I disarm people who yell in the car with a big smile.

Me, I like to fight.

Is this particularly the case in these times of pandemic?

Yes.

There, beautiful projects in the theater that fell apart, I started writing a feature film and I had scheduled meetings between confinements to sign with producers.

I had the impression that everything was going to fall apart.

But, I resisted.

We are a generation where we have not had many difficulties in life.

There, we know one, spectacular.

I want to tell my friends that I love them, to remind people I haven't seen for a long time… My good mood just wavers a little when I think of my children: in what world I gave birth to them ?

That worries me

Are you revengeful?

No.

I don't remember much when we were mean to me, I evacuate.

It is wasting time, energy.

The worst nastiness you've been done?

A director was not correct with me and I learned that he was used to the fact: he came to get me, he gave me tests and then he never called me back before telling me how much I missed on set… It wasn't very pleasant.

At school, I remember a pretty cruel boy with me when I was 15.

Is the world of cinema cruel?

No more than in other circles!

When I was a young actress, an older actress I was playing my first play with would nudge me as soon as I walked on stage because she felt like I was doing it on purpose to hide her.

It was just a rookie mistake on my part!

Did you wear that black wig in "Gloria", was that filth?

No.

I love this wig!

I am not a model, nor here to always play dressed women.

In "Gloria", we are not in "West Coast".

Who is your favorite villain on the screen?

I really like Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) in "The Handmaid's Tale".

I keep in memory Danièle Delorme in "Here is the time of the assassins" with Jean Gabin, Milady in "The three musketeers".

And the mother-in-law of "Snow White".

I like the bad guys who seek revenge.

What do you do with it?

I shot in another series for TF 1, “the Substitute”, with JoeyStarr

(Editor's note: broadcast April 12),

where I play the crazy and funny headmistress of a high school.

There, I start filming for France 3 of a unit where a woman loses her husband and her son, fishermen because their boat was rammed by a submarine.

And I'm going to make an appearance in "The Art of Crime" on France 2 as a cowboy cop and a big mouth.

I'm writing my feature film about a father-daughter reconciliation against the backdrop of an Egyptian treasure hunt, between “All fire, all flame” and “Indiana Jones”.

I hope to shoot it next year.

Why go to realization?

I don't want to be an old actress.

When I made my short film

(Editor's note: “the misfortune of others” in 2018),

I had the impression of finally becoming an adult at over 40!

I love cinema, I watch all the old films, those of the Caesars, I observe how they are put together, I take notes ... I would like to continue playing secondary characters and directing the rest of the time .

I love being an actress but there are few interesting roles for women over 50 and there are many of us!
