Andrew Cuomo
signed the bill legalizing recreational marijuana in New York State, which becomes law.
New York is the 16th state of America to allow adults to use cannabis.
#BREAKING: I just signed legislation legalizing adult-use cannabis.
The bill creates automatic expungement of previous marijuana convictions that would now be legal.
This is a historic day.
I thank the Leader and Speaker and the tireless advocacy of so many.

"It's a historic day," Cuomo tweets celebrating the legalization of recreational marijuana in upstate New York, which could become one of the biggest markets for cannabis.
The measure was approved by the state Senate with 40 votes in favor and 23 against.
Parliament approved it with 94 votes in favor and 56 against.
Republicans voted en bloc for no, but their wall was worth nothing.
And so after years of failed attempts, marijuana is now legal.
In the past, the political confrontation had taken place over the distribution of taxes.
