The Council of Europe's committee of experts charged with preparing the future convention on artificial intelligence today launched an online consultation, which will run until 29 April, to gather the largest number of views on key issues to be part of the treaty .
To facilitate consultation, the committee has prepared a questionnaire which asks, among other things, on which values and principles the design, development and application of artificial intelligence should be based, the areas in which greater safeguards are needed, and which policies and solutions must be adopted to ensure that artificial intelligence systems respect the standards of respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law of the Council of Europe.
The committee believes that on these and other points it is important to collect the views of representatives of governments, public administrations, international organizations, civil society, companies, academia and technicians.
To ensure full transparency, the responses will be published on the Council of Europe website and will serve as the basis for a report which will be used as a support for the elaboration of the contents of the convention.
