Beaver: Conspecifics in Bavaria apparently killed by an unknown person

In the Allgäu, a stranger is said to have stabbed a beaver.
The dead animal was found by a walker with a stab wound in the stomach in the area of the municipality of Wald on the banks of the Wertach, said the Swabian Southwest police headquarters.
The stab wound probably came from a wooden stick.
The nature of the injury did not indicate that the animal injured itself, a spokesman said.
The beaver was described as trusting and allowed careful approximations to less than two meters, it said.
The police initiated investigations into suspected crimes under the Federal Nature Conservation and Animal Welfare Act.
Killing vertebrates for no good reason can be punished with up to three years in prison.
