The number of Covid-19 infections reported worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic has exceeded 128 million, according to data from the American University of Johns Hopkins

.

The deaths were almost 2.8 million, the healings 72.6 million.

The country most affected in absolute terms by the new coronavirus remains the United States, with 30.3 million cases and 551,000 deaths out of 328 million inhabitants.

Brazil (12.5 million, 313 thousand), India (12 million, 162 thousand) and Mexico (2.2 million, 201 thousand) follow.

New rise of coronavirus infections in

Japan

, in the major urban centers but also in the rural areas of the archipelago, one week after the end of the state of emergency.

Osaka

prefecture

, west of the capital, reported over 400 cases daily on Tuesday, the highest level in over a month, for many of which there is no traceability.

An element, the latter, which led the governor of the prefecture, Hirofumi Yoshimura, to decree the possible "arrival of the fourth wave" of the pathogen.

Yoshimura also said he intends to ask the central government for greater authority to implement more stringent measures to commercial activities, including the obligation to close restaurants and bars early in the evening.

The same goes for

Tokyo

, with the metropolitan government which registered 364 positivity, up for the eleventh consecutive day.

Concern was expressed by the governors of the prefectures of Miyagi and Yamagata, in the north east of the country, where hospitals are suffering.

In the meantime, the vaccination campaign is proceeding slowly.

The government has decided to leave with the medical staff since mid-February, and to date just over 800,000 inoculations have been performed.

From 12 April we will proceed with the immunization of citizens over 65, about 34 million people, and subsequently patients with serious clinical pathologies.

Currently, only Pfizer's vaccine has received the green light from the Ministry of Health, while Moderna and AstraZeneca are still awaiting approval.

The minister at the head of the national vaccination plan, Taro Kono, foresees an acceleration in the administration of vaccines in May with the authorization of the antidote from AstraZeneca.

Unlike Pfizer, Kono explained, the 120 million doses purchased will be manufactured in Japan, facilitating distribution.

On more than one occasion, the Tokyo government has pointed to the EU's choices to restrict supplies from the BioNTech plant in Belgium, controlled by the American Pfizer, rather than criticizing the choices of the US ally to restrict supplies to give priority to the vaccination of their own population.

Since the start of the pandemic, Japan has recorded 472,325 coronavirus infections, with 9,120 confirmed deaths.
