According to the latest remarks by Duchess Meghan, the Archbishop of Canterbury married her and Prince Harry before the public wedding - but with the clergyman it sounds a little different: “I had several private and pastoral meetings with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex before the official ceremony, "said Archbishop Justin Welby in an interview published on Wednesday with the Italian newspaper" La Repubblica ".

The lawful wedding took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, added the clergyman.

"I signed a marriage certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a grave misdemeanor if I had signed it knowing it was wrong."

The British Prince Harry and the former US actress Meghan Markle had tied the knot on May 19, 2018 in Windsor in a ceremony with numerous guests.

In her interview with US presenter Oprah Winfrey, which was broadcast in early March, Meghan said, however, that Welby had married her three days earlier in a private ceremony.

Welby denied this, but did not want to say anything about the content of the previous discussions with the Duke and Duchess.

Instead, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he had had a telephone audience with the Queen.

94-year-old Elizabeth II made her first public appearance on Wednesday, two days after the corona easing in Great Britain.

Meghans and Harry's interview with US talk show host Winfrey had made waves in the UK.

Meghan said, for example, during her first pregnancy there were "worries and discussions" about her unborn child in the royal family about "how dark his skin may be when he is born."

In addition, the 39-year-old described that despite her thoughts of suicide because of the constant negative media coverage about her, a high-ranking palace representative had denied her the use of psychological help out of concern for the image of the royals.

Harry reported that he felt "abandoned" by his father, Charles.
