Rewe and Penny are recalling certain types of snack tomatoes.

The products could contain broken glass and should no longer be consumed.

Cologne - Certain Mediterranean products from the Rewe and Penny supermarkets are affected by a recall.

As the Greek manufacturer K. Iraklidis & Söhne AG announces, some packages of the snack tomatoes it supplies may contain glass foreign bodies.

The products are half-dried tomatoes that are sealed in bags ready for consumption.

They are usually suitable for pasta sauces or salads, for example.

Recall from Rewe and Penny: All batches of the affected snack tomatoes are potentially dangerous

All batches are affected regardless of their best-before date of the following products:

  • REWE Best Choice Snack Tomatoes with Sea Salt, 150g

  • REWE Best Choice Snack Tomatoes with Herbs, 150g

  • ORTO MIO snack tomatoes with sea salt, 150 g

The manufacturer warns that the splinters contained could lead to injuries.

We therefore strongly advise against consuming the affected products.

Rewe also warns of the batches that were sold nationwide in Rewe and Penny branches.

The reason for the precautionary recall of all best-before dates is the suspicion “that individual packs may contain small, pointed, transparent glass foreign bodies”.

This could lead to injuries.

Rewe and Penny start recall: Customers can return packages - health hazard

"A health hazard cannot be ruled out with absolute certainty," writes Rewe.

That is why the company reacted and immediately withdrew the affected products from sale.

Customers who have already bought affected products can return the packs in the respective store and receive a refund for the purchase price - even without presenting the receipt.

There are more and more recalls in the German food trade.

Of all things, foreign bodies are the most common causes.
