The education union GEW is in favor of having educators vaccinated before daycare centers open again on a large scale. So long they should only offer emergency operation.

In Hamburg, the daycare centers will go into extended emergency operation again after Easter, but elsewhere they are still open regularly.

Now the vaccination recommendation has also been changed and younger teachers should no longer be vaccinated with AstraZeneca.

For these reasons, the education union GEW demands that the daycare centers return to emergency care across the board - until the staff there has been vaccinated.

"After Easter we have to go back to real emergency care in the daycare centers until our colleagues have been vaccinated," said GEW federal chairwoman Marlis Tepe to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"It is hard to understand why the countries are not acting here."

Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD) wants to prevent the daycare centers from closing or switching to emergency operation, despite the increasing corona numbers.

"Everything" must be tried, this is in the interests of parents and children.

She relies on spit tests.

Tepe, on the other hand, expressed concern that delayed corona vaccinations could endanger the staff if the number of infections in daycare centers rose: "Daycare centers don't have any Easter holidays, and the infections there are increasing rapidly," she said.

After it became known that children are more severely affected by the new virus mutant, the emergency brake must be pulled in daycare centers.

Kindergarten teachers are classified in priority group 2.

Many of them were originally intended to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca.

After reports of cerebral vein thrombosis, the health ministers of the federal states decided on Tuesday evening that the vaccine from the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company should only be used without restriction in people aged 60 and over.

According to Giffey, the number of corona infections in daycare centers has increased "significantly" in the past few weeks, in line with general events in the general population.

The number of reported cases in children up to five years of age has quadrupled since mid-February.
