Bottles, beer cans, plastic bags, cigarette ends, masks or even shoes… you can find everything at the Canal de l'Ourcq.

“One day, I saw someone swinging their washing machine right there,” says Raphael, who came to fish with a friend.

“A little higher, there are bicycles, scooters with the batteries that go with them…” he continues.

Temperatures are particularly mild in recent days.

And with the return of the sun, waste is swarming in the canal, "it hurts your heart," says Barbara, who has settled down by the water for lunch.

“Some people leave their rubbish and with the wind everything ends up in the water,” explains Lucile, manager of a restaurant on the canal.

The waste multiplies and ends its course in the basin of La Villette.

Last Wednesday it was completely covered in trash.

"We have bins every 30 m, so it's an effort that is possible", ironically Raphael, the fisherman who notes all the same an improvement in recent years, "the quality of the water is better and it is still less dirty ”.

The small ship which owes its name to a voracious Amazonian fish, plies the Parisian canals almost every day and swallows as much waste as possible.

But the skip is well filled at the end of the day "there, we are confined but you will see this summer", warns Miguel, the maintenance agent of the canals before going back on board.
