Burma: 7 more deaths, death toll rises to 543

At least 7 other deaths were recorded yesterday in Burma, a figure that brings the total number of victims since the start of the anti-coup protests to at least 543: the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (Aapp) reports. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 02 - At least 7 other deaths were recorded yesterday in Burma, a figure that brings the total number of victims since the beginning of the anti-coup protests to at least 543: the Association for the assistance to political prisoners (Aapp ).

According to the non-profit organization for the defense of human rights based in Thailand, five people were killed on Thursday, while two had lost their lives in recent days but had not been counted.

So far, the authorities have arrested a total of 2,741 people.

Yesterday, exleader Aung San Suu Kyi was also accused of having violated a law on state secrets dating back to the colonial era, while the UN Security Council unanimously approved a statement in which it strongly condemns the deaths of civilians in the country and in which concern is expressed about the deterioration of the situation.
