The health emergency has brought numerous economic sectors to their knees, but the most affected remains that of tourism which has presented an epochal repercussion. Recent Eurostat data has shown that the number of nights spent in hotels in European countries has dropped by 52% compared to the pre-pandemic. In Italy alone, tourism is worth over 13% of the national GDP and in the last year losses have been estimated at around 7 billion euros. To get out of the extreme situation of difficulty, hoteliers trust in the vaccination campaign and begin to prepare for a post-Covid future, accelerating the modernization of structures and services, especially for the luxury target with investments accelerated by the pandemic to satisfy a clientele of professionals mostly.

With a view to

staycation, workation

(or in a sense that recalls the millenary tradition of the Roman baths) or

Workotium

many luxury hotels are imagining

a new list of services that were not there before

: Internet connection and working station with desk, break with sweets and coffee for breaks, ergonomic chair, delivery service for documents and parcels, gigantic 49-inch TV monitors for HDMI connections, laptop or video conferences, printing service, wired or wi-fi multifunction printer (fax, email, scanner, printer).

These are examples of what the Italian Hospitality Collection is doing in its five hotels - Le Massif in Courmayeur, Grotta Giusti, Fonteverde, Bagni di Pisa in Tuscany and Chia Laguna in Sardinia alongside massages, breath therapy, wellness treatments.

But it is an example because with some variations they are the same services required in luxury hotels throughout Italy, such as Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, awarded the best luxury design hotel in Italy that adds an artistic contest with an internal art gallery and suites up to 100sqm perfectly equipped to work (also).

Or like the covid free staycations in the central luxury hotels of Rome Hassler in Trinità de 'Monti, Splendide Royal behind Via Veneto and Sofitel Villa Borghese.

Among the new services already starting this summer are the

Loquis

geo podcasting

, a new platform that allows you to listen to short audio stories about the places and promises to change the travel experience by car, plane or cruise by telling monuments and cultural sites, anecdotes, itineraries to discover jewel-like villages, relaxation in nature reserves, fantastic coves, food and wine tours, film locations, even American-style homes of famous people, works of street art, legends and mysteries, trendy clubs, more than 120,000 stories published for the free smartphone application and by accessing the website with 250 channels and stories are available in 6 languages.

An important issue is

 digitization

: a recent research by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, published in the New York Times, showed that 56% of the structures intend to exploit Big Data and cloud systems to make processes smarter. .

In this way, hoteliers can manage reservations, cancellation policies and refunds without setting foot on the property, totally remotely.

Even the

environmental sustainability becomes a focal point for the futur

or: by the same research has emerged as 44% of the tip structures to eco-friendly initiative that go to reduce air pollution, sodisfando the needs of customers, especially the younger ones.

Suffice it to say, in fact, that 62% of young people between 18 and 29 have admitted that they want to stay in structures that make

Green Policy

one of their main warnings.

“The only way to try to get out of this difficult situation is to adapt to the latest trends and digitization is one of them.

At the Hotel Sporting in Alba Adriatica - says the director of the structure Andrea Montecchia - we have implemented a big data system aimed at improving the environmental impact of the washing area and the breakfast service.

This 4.0 transition project will allow for an improvement in decision making and will help reduce the consumption of water, detergents and electricity.

Consumption abatement estimates will start from 15% and, through the learning connected to the growth of big data, can even reach 30%.

This is a pilot project designed specifically to understand its advantages and continue with investments in the kitchen, laundry and cold chain ”.

Attention also to the hygiene and

sanitation of the spaces

in the structure.

A theme that, due to the pandemic, has risen to the top of customers' interests: 74% prefer hotels that can guarantee maximum cleanliness.

Also in this case, digitization represents a fundamental viaticum: proposing Hi-Tech solutions that can combine sanitation and customer comfort is the main point for a lift.

But that's not all, because many structures in tourist resorts are converting to dedicated spaces for smart working, one of the ways of working on which we also bet for post-covid theft.

It happens in Italy and all over the world, according to a recent research by Fox News, searches for structures that could host managers and workers intent on organizing their typical day between thousands of commitments and meetings have increased by 45%.

And

the hotel remains the ultimate relaxation facility

.

The importance of digitalization for the restart of hotels is a thought shared also by Ercole Vagnozzi, professor of Business Intelligence & Customer Relationship Management at the Alma Mater University of Bologna until 2020 and Chief Economist of numerous startups: "Big data represents the future and we see it from the fact that they are implemented in any sector, even in construction and especially in tourism.

The creation of big data through sensors and real-time monitoring allows, through predictivity and artificial intelligence, to obtain numerous advantages.

For example, internal data and big data from the plant engineering and metereoligco sector can be integrated, obtaining business and environmental benefits ".
