A 64-year-old woman who was hospitalized infected with the Manaus variant of coronavirus

died this Saturday

in Santa Fe. The lady did not record a

history of travel

or close contact with an infected person.

Sources from the province's Ministry of Health had advanced this Friday that two people from Santa Fe had been infected with coronavirus as a result of the strains from

Manaus and the United Kingdom

.

The woman was admitted to the Jaime Ferré Hospital, in the city of Rafaela.

There she was monitored by health teams, although finally this Saturday they confirmed that she died, so it would be the first victim of the Manaus strain.

Given the appearance of the first two cases of these variants of Covid-19 in Santa Fe, the health portfolio recalled that "all people who enter the country must prove a

negative PCR test within 72 hours

prior to the trip, carry out a quarantine strict

ten days

and a new PCR seven days after arrival, still without symptoms, to avoid the introduction of new strains and their dispersion in the population ".

The Amazon variant of the coronavirus, known as P.1 or the Manaus strain, which is already circulating in Argentina, has the capacity to

reinfect those who were already victims of Covid-19

and harbors a double contagion power.

Researchers from the Brazil-UK Center for Arbovirus Discovery, Diagnosis, Genomics and Epidemiology (Cadde) reported that the P.1.

it is between 1.4 and 2.2 times more transmissible

than the strains that preceded it, as explained in a statement from the Fundación del Amparo a la Pesquisa del Estado de São Paulo.

The scientists also estimated that in a significant part of the people who are already infected with SARS-CoV-2 - between 25% and 61% - the new Manaus variant

can bypass the immune system

and cause a new one. infection.

The arrival of the Manaus variant has been one of the concerns of the health authorities for weeks.

Until the end of last week, 11 cases were confirmed, of which 8 have a history of tourism and three were infected in the community.
