There are several suspected right-wing extremism cases in the Hamburg fire brigade.
The police in the Hanseatic city pointed out that several employees are said to have exchanged unconstitutional symbols, the fire department said.
"Corresponding disciplinary investigations" have been initiated against five firefighters with the aim of "resolving the matter consistently and as quickly as possible."
In addition, the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution had given the information that an officer of the fire brigade supported right-wing extremists on social media and had disseminated racist content there several times, it said.
Disciplinary investigations have been initiated against the officer and an "immediate ban on conducting official business" has been issued.
"Right-wing extremism has no place in the Hamburg fire brigade," said fire brigade chief Christian Schwarz.
"We are all asked not only not to look the other way, but to intervene actively, should there be any border crossings by individuals towards other members of the Hamburg fire brigade or third parties."
