(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 03 - "Michelangelo's light": in a video the recent studies that are deepening the architectural and sculptural project of the "Tomb of Julius II", a monumental sepulchral built by Michelangelo Buonarroti in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, in Rome , in the center of which is the famous statue of Moses.

On the eve of Easter, the Ministry of Culture launches on its YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/I_kE9PXCNho) and on all social networks the premièred of the film, entirely created by the Press and Communication Office of the Ministry.

Through a timelapse, the movement of natural light on the sculptural group is shown which, according to recent research, was used by Michelangelo himself to create a surprising visual phenomenon that surpasses modern special effects.

During the sunsets of the spring equinox, to which the feast of Easter is connected, the sun's rays pass through the windows of the facade and a very narrow passage between the columns of the nave of the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli and illuminate the work with a play of light that minute by minute, he theatrically lights up some fundamental elements of the sculptural group and strengthens their spiritual significance.

"Spectacular images that show the richness of the Italian cultural heritage that, after centuries, still manages to amaze with new interesting readings. The study of the relationship between art and light is enriched and offers new interesting readings on Michelangelo's works" declares the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini.

In addition to the video on the phenomenon of light in one of the greatest Renaissance masterpieces, the social channels of Mic - YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter - publish a video interview with Antonio Forcellino, architect, art historian and restorer who, in the past years, has curated the restoration of Moses and which in these days is carrying out a cleaning operation of the work under the tutelage of the Special Superintendency of Rome, directed by Dr. Daniela Porro.
