Covid-19 in France: 185 additional deaths and 270 new patients in critical care

2021-04-04T17:04:28.786Z

The pressure continues to intensify in the territory, with new hospitalizations and additional entries in critical care.

The new restrictions, in place so far in 19 departments, have come into force in the rest of the territory of metropolitan France since Saturday evening.

Far too early for the effects to be felt, especially since the government has decided to leave a tolerance for interregional travel throughout the Easter weekend.

At the same time, the numbers for the epidemic continue to climb.

The daily report of Public Health France reports, this Sunday, 185 new deaths from SARS-CoV-2 in the past 24 hours.

The day before, they were 187. Seven days ago, 131 people lost their lives in 24 hours due to Covid-19.

This brings, in all, the number of deaths since the start of the epidemic to 96,678.

Screening at the highest level among young people

Anti-Covid screening has never been so intensive.

Over the past week, an average of 500,000 tests were performed each day.

But this progression is not equally distributed in all categories and it is seen especially among the youngest.

Reported to the population, the 10-19 year olds are even those who suffer the most samples.

On the hospital side, the pressure is growing a little more and the bar of 30,000 hospitalized begins to approach.

This Sunday, 29,356 people are hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection, or 1,224 new people compared to the day before.

They were 27,712 seven days ago.

Focus on truncated numbers

Critical care services have received an additional 270 patients in the past 24 hours.

In all, 5,341 people are currently in intensive care, intensive care unit or continuous monitoring unit.

They were 4,872 seven days ago, proof that the pressure is still increasing.

Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, has also warned that in critical care services, the peak may not be reached until the end of April.

Despite the Easter weekend, and the public holiday looming this Monday, vaccination continues, even if the pace slows down.

67,630 people received a dose in the past 24 hours, compared to 218,933 the day before.

This brings in all to 9,290,816 the number of French people having received at least one dose and to 3,131,644 those having received two.
