An 87-year-old man lost control of his car in Dahlem-Schmidtheim near Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia and drove into a bakery.

The man confused the brake pedal and the accelerator during a parking maneuver and broke through the building facade, the police said about the accident, which had already occurred on Thursday morning.

The car only came to a standstill in the bakery's sales room.

The driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

People in the store were not injured, according to police.

Meanwhile, the building suffered a lot of property damage: apart from the shop window, the police said the parapet wall of the house was also completely destroyed.
