In times of economic crisis, Covid layoffs and precariousness, does it make sense to talk about employee benefits?

Obviously yes, because this, in addition to digital training, safety culture, sharing of virtuous experiences are among other things the strengths that emerged from the renewal of the National Collective Labor Agreement for Metalworkers, approved on 5 February last, which involved about 1 , 5 million employees and confirmed the 200 euros a year of welfare instruments.

At this stage, therefore, for large companies and SMEs in the sector, the bargaining of the benefits made available comes into play, but which are those preferred by workers during this pandemic period?

From a recent investigation conducted during the second wave of health emergency by

Harris Interactive

for Sodexo out of 4,897 employees from 8 countries including Italy, it emerged that in first place there are

immediate premiums

(34%), followed by those related to food & beverage (24%), financial benefits and the possibility of work in smart working (both equal to 23%) and from vouchers for lunch (22%).

The top 10 of the survey on the most desired benefits closed the request for private medical assistance (21%), the subsidy for public transport, psycho-physical health benefits, training programs and long-term benefits (all at 20%);

followed by the company car (13%), services for children (11%) and the company credit card (10%).

The importance of focusing on flexible benefits, intended as products that improve one's quality of life, can also be useful for avoiding the flight of talent: a recent research by Eagle Hill Consulting published by Human Resource Executive has in fact emerged as

the 58 % of employees are working in burnout conditions

and that even one in 4 are planning to leave the company.

The variations in benefit preferences between the summer surveys and those linked to the post-autumn wave should also be recorded: short-term bonuses maintained the first step of the podium but at the same time lost 3 percentage points, while the possibility of working from home has even lost 4% of the votes, going from second to fourth place in the top 10, a decline that also involved benefits related to health and well-being which, losing 3 percentage points, went from fourth to eighth in the ranking.

On the other hand, meal vouchers

(+ 2%), training courses (+ 2%) and company credit cards (+ 2%) are

on the rise

.

"Flexibility, freedom of choice, ease of use and speed of use are key elements in the provision of our services and technology is an integral part of this vision - explained Florent Lambert, the new CEO of Sodexo Benefits & Rewards Services for the market. Italian, who after many years of international experience in the Sodexo Group, has welcomed the new challenges of the company - Our digital vouchers such as Pass Shopping are in fact an immediate response for the provision of welfare services for large and small companies, without forgetting the satisfaction and freedom of choice of employees in the occasions and methods of use ".

Here are the top 10 benefits most requested by workers in times of pandemics:

1) Instant rewards (34%)

2) Food & Beverage (24%)

3) Financial benefits / Possibility of continuing to work in a "smart working" regime (23%)

4) Lunch voucher (22%)

5) Request for medical-private assistance (21%)

6) Public transport subsidy / Psycho-physical health benefits / Training programs (20%)
