"Hippocrates" back on Canal +: a real crush for these real caregivers

Season 2 of the powerful medical series starts this Monday on Canal +. Nurses who took part in the filming shared

A hospital literally under water even before being struck by the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the beginning of season 2 of “Hippocrates” (this Monday, April 5 on Canal + at 9:05 pm), a pipeline breaks in the emergency room, forcing the flooded service to move into that of internal medicine.

This chaotic situation is the starting point for eight shiny new episodes, where we find the young interns from season 1 trying to keep their heads above water.

Created, co-written and directed by Thomas Lilti, himself a former doctor who returned to service during the current health crisis, "Hippocrates" is a fiction that is crying out for truth.

Real members of the nursing staff also appear on the screen.

Among them, Juliette Aoudia, 44, a hospital nurse for twenty years.

“When Thomas Lilti started as a young intern, I was a young nurse at the Garches hospital.

I hadn't been able to participate in season 1, but when I saw her, she upset me, because I found scenes that I had been able to live with Thomas.

On the set of season 2, I felt like a continuity with my work.

Even when the cameras are on, I feel like a caregiver, more than an actress.

"This series allows you to discover behind the scenes"

Fabrice Robin, a 33-year-old nurse, ten of whom spent in intensive care at the Pitié Salpêtrière (Paris, 13th century), also underlines the realism of the fiction.

“The shooting took place in the disused premises of a real hospital, the decoration team was able to obtain the appropriate medical equipment and the medical terms are adequate,” he explains.

Not only is the director Thomas Lilti a doctor, but he has a very human approach, making himself accessible and listening to the experience and constructive comments of caregivers on site.

“I am proud to have taken part in it,” enthuses Séverine Mollet, 38 years old.

This emergency nurse for fifteen years, works at the Robert Ballanger hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), where the fiction was shot.

“I love my job and I'm happy to be able to represent it.

This series allows people to see behind the scenes.

I hear a lot of families who complain about waiting too long when they are in the hospital.

It is important to show that it is not because we are twiddling our thumbs, but because we lack the means, the staff.

This French hospital crisis situation, which already existed long before the pandemic, necessarily resonates even louder.

“It's good not to embellish the situation to capture the attention of the public, adds Fabrice.

Me, I left my post in intensive care between season 1 and 2 because I could not stand all these difficulties.

With the pandemic, it is even worse, the hospital was not ready.

On the first wave, there was a lot of solidarity and generosity.

Now we are in general exhaustion and a form of resignation.

"

"A profession in which we do not shield ourselves"

“Hippocrates” does not forget that caregivers are first and foremost humans.

“It moved me to find in the series this somewhat family atmosphere that we had at Garches hospital, insists Juliette.

It is a humanity that we see less and less now.

It happened to me to go and hide in a reserve to cry, because some executives do not want us to crack.

But it is a profession in which we do not arm ourselves.

We do not put people in plastic covers without having a feeling.

"

As difficult as it is, it is never harmless to put your vocation aside.

“During the first wave of Covid-19, I had to stay in the background,” explains Séverine.

Because I was a person at risk and because, as my son has had no father since he was 6 years old, I could not expose myself given the lack of protections we had at the time.

But it was reluctantly.

When I heard the ambulances, the helicopters, I was in tears, I felt useless.

Filming for season 2 was interrupted from March to June due to the pandemic.

Before resuming until November.

The scenario has also been adapted even if the virus does not appear on the screen right away.

The result is up to everyone's involvement and a great tribute to those who sacrifice a great deal all year round to keep a faltering health system alive.
