Is Aldi going back to the junk shop image?

Munich - After years, Aldi is again introducing a new shopping cart.

But instead of following the modern shopping cart trend, the discounter is relying on a stripped-down shopping cart variant.

The quality of the shopping carts has obviously deteriorated.

The new design looks like a leap back in time.

Aldi: The new shopping cart is not very future-oriented

The new shopping trolleys from Aldi could scratch the image of the discounter.

Instead of scoring points with high-quality workmanship, the new cars embody an image that Aldi has been trying to shed for a long time: the cheap image.

The new shopping trolleys are now light green and much thinner.

The old dark gray fitting was completely replaced.

Instead of giving a modern impression, the new models are reminiscent of old makes from the 1990s.

In addition, the Aldi shopping cart loses its comfort grip and a deposit box.

In the test, it was also noticed that pushing the shopping trolley requires more force to maneuver the trolley across the paved Aldi parking lot.

Only the roles of the shopping cart are the same.

Aldi works with the shopping trolley manufacturer Wanzl, which has a market share of almost 80 percent in Germany.

Aldi: New shopping cart may have been introduced for cost reasons

Where the Aldi logo immediately catches the eye on the old shopping trolleys, the viewer is much more likely to notice the warning notices on the new models.

The logo is much smaller.

For example, there are three symbols on the handle that indicate that children must not be placed on the shelf.

As with other shopping carts, the new Aldi model has a child seat with a load capacity of 15 kilograms.

Another change concerns the coin deposit system.

This is no longer in the center, but on the far right.

Aldi may have introduced these shopping carts for cost reasons.

Shopping carts are usually made of steel wire and metal tubing and weigh around 15 kilograms.

When purchasing, they cost 100 to 250 euros, depending on the version.

This should probably save the discounter a bit of money, but reduce customer service.

Other supermarkets such as Edeka or Rewe have been relying more and more on convenience in recent years.

Retailers tried to improve the shopping experience with cell phone holders, comfort grips and generally better workmanship.
