(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 05 - Portugal reopened today its museums, bars with terraces and secondary schools, almost two months after the anti-Covid squeeze following a surge in cases of contagion in the weeks following the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has recorded almost 16,900 deaths caused by the coronavirus compared to 823,335 infections.

However, today's slack includes some pallets: only a maximum of four people will be able to sit together at the tables of the outdoor bars, while museums will be free to change their opening hours.

At the same time, group workouts in gyms and sports centers remain prohibited.

The government plans to reopen high schools, universities and concert halls at the end of this month, while restaurants will have to wait until May.

Primary schools reopened on March 15th.

Yesterday Lisbon announced the extension of restrictions on border crossing points for tourists until April 15, a measure that was put in place at the end of January.

The measure does not apply to the transport of goods, frontier workers and emergency services.

Furthermore, the ban does not prevent the return to the country of Portuguese citizens and persons with a residence permit, nor the exit of foreign citizens.
