(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 05 - A new hearing on pre-trial detention in prison is scheduled for today in Cairo for Patrick George Zaki, the 29-year-old student of the University of Bologna held for over a year in Egypt, in the Tora prison.
Illegals will return to ask for his immediate release.
The researcher, human rights activist, who was pursuing a European master's degree in Bologna, is accused, among other things, of subversive propaganda and incitement to terrorism on the basis of some posts on Facebook from an account that according to his lawyers is not his own.
He faces 25 years in prison.
"As always, the sensations on the day of the hearing are mixed - Riccardo Noury, spokesman for Amnesty International Italia told ANSA -. There is the hope that 14 months of detention may be enough to judge Patrick innocent. part of the Egyptian judiciary and there is the expectation, as always, to know the outcome which, as often happens, will not coincide with the end of the hearing. Hope is always alive ".
Diplomats from Italy, France, Canada and the United States went to the court of Cairo where the hearing on the precautionary custody in prison for Patrick Zaki is held and have deposited, as usual, written communications to express their interest in the case.
It was learned in the Egyptian capital.
