Snow has slowed down numerous motorists in parts of Germany.

As a police spokesman reported, there was no longer any progress on Autobahn 5 near Alsfeld in Hesse.

Heavy goods traffic had come to a standstill there and traffic was jammed in both directions.

Spreader vehicles were in use.

Police headquarters in North Hesse have counted around a dozen accidents in the Kassel area since the early morning.

In Schüttorf, Lower Saxony, a 29-year-old driver slipped his car off the slippery road in the morning and crashed into a tree, a police spokeswoman said.

The man suffered serious injuries.

Accident with at least 15 vehicles on A3

In the district of Cloppenburg, a 22-year-old driver probably skidded on a slippery road in the morning after overtaking a truck.

The 22-year-old and his 21-year-old passenger came to the hospital with minor injuries.

In northern Thuringia trucks got stuck due to heavy snowfall.

As the police announced, several of the vehicles were stuck on a mountain.

On Monday evening, at least 15 vehicles collided with a pile-up on Autobahn 3 in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse near the city of Idstein.

According to initial findings, there are at least three injured, as the police announced.

The cause of the accident and the severity of the injuries to those involved are unknown.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, several accidents on the motorways in which at least five people were injured also occurred on Monday evening in heavy snowfall.

As police spokesmen in Rostock and Neubrandenburg said, there were temporary closures.

A semitrailer truck was pushed off the lane of the A20 near Jarmen and overturned.
