"The situation is very encouraging": The

head of the public health services, Dr. Sharon Elrai-Price, held a press briefing today (Tuesday) and commented on the morbidity data. "We have about 300 patients per day and this is a significant decrease," she noted.

"The epidemic is fading. The rate of decline is a little slower. It is a tremendous achievement that we can open up the economy, cultural events and clubs and also the education system - and we should all be proud of it."

"We will not vaccinate children before we get permission"

"Children between the ages of 12 and 16 will not be vaccinated before FDA approval and before a discussion in the State of Israel on the epidemic treatment team. There will be no rounding of corners here," she stated.

"We are already beginning internal discussions."

"We do not want to run once Pfizer has announced something. We are responsible for the safety and health of children. An in-depth examination is appropriate. The morbidity in children, even if it is mostly asymptomatic and mild, we do not know what the side effects will be later."

According to Elrai-Price, "We have data on about 800 children aged 15-12 who were approved to be vaccinated. No hundreds of people who received the vaccine reported any side effects. By and large, this vaccine according to the State of Israel is probably safe, and according to Pfizer data is Sure".

"Hope to renew the supply of vaccines"

Dr. Elrai-Price confirmed the outline published this morning in "Israel Today" on the subject of returning to school, noting that "the opening of third grades and the release of day classes from first to third is the beginning.

It will take a few days to see a trend, and if there is no increase in morbidity - the next step will be to open capsules on Wednesday to Friday.

As for the division, already today we offer the activation of an education shield (periodic tests for students) that will allow capsules to be opened.

For grades 11-12, we lower the immunization threshold to 65% so that more grades can study toward matriculation.

We are opening carefully and responsibly. "

Asked if Pfizer stopped deliveries to Israel, she replied that there are not enough vaccines for all recoverers: "We received all the shipments that were part of the previous agreement. The following shipments are part of the new agreement, which depends on government approval. Most vaccines in the new agreement are 2022 agreements. "Vaccinate all recoverers in the State of Israel. I hope the agreement will be signed and we will be able to renew the supplies."

Regarding wearing masks outside, she said: "This is a significant decision, discussions are being held. We are definitely considering taking off masks in the open air, as soon as we feel it is safer."
