Former NBA star Paul Pierce is said to have lost his job as a TV expert at ESPN after a sensational video.

This was reported by the AP news agency and the CNN broadcaster, citing unspecified sources.

An official confirmation of the personnel is still pending.

Pierce posted a live Instagram video on Friday night showing him playing poker and smoking.

Scantily clad dancers could be seen in the background.

In addition, nobody wore mouth and nose protection, which is a violation of ESPN's corona regulations.

The station belongs to the Walt Disney Company, which is best known for its family-friendly programming.

After the reports about Pierce's termination were published, the 43-year-old spoke up on Instagram, but without mentioning it directly.

"Bigger and better things" are on the way, according to the American.

Pierce had played in the NBA for 19 years, including 15 for the Boston Celtics.

In 2008 he won his only NBA title with the record champion.

That season he was also voted Most Valuable Player (MVP).

He ended his career in 2017.
