According to the information, the images have not yet been found.
One of the paintings is by Vincent van Gogh and was exhibited in the Singer Museum in Laren, around 30 kilometers east of Amsterdam, until the theft in March 2020.
It bears the title »Parish Garden in Nuenen« and dates from 1884.
The other painting, "Two Laughing Boys" (1627) by the Dutch master Frans Hals, was stolen in August 2020 from a small museum in Leerdam, about 60 kilometers south of the capital.
In both cases the doors of the museums were broken open.
Each work of art is worth several million euros.
The suspect is a 58-year-old man who was arrested by the police in his apartment in Baarn, not far from the museum in Laren.
The police have not yet given any further information about his identity.
