Aldi Nord again ensures crooked price displays on the shelves.
Above all, critics criticize the concept of the “sample price”.
Munich - Aldi Nord is again under criticism because of the price.
In some branches, the discounter is said to use “sample prices” for the fruit and vegetable range.
The
Deutschlandfunk
reports
.
Among other things, the practice would make price comparisons considerably more difficult.
For example, paprika is said to have been awarded a price of 0.87 euros, which is highlighted in bold.
However, this is not usually the basic price per kilogram or liter, but refers to “eg 250 g”.
The price per kilo would only be in very small letters on the sign.
At the request of the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
, Aldi Nord denied testing a new price format.
"Sample prices or prices of 250 g are not tested by us," said a spokeswoman.
"If the 250 g price is awarded in one of our stores, it is a matter of individual decisions by the respective regional company."
Aldi Nord: Warning from the Hamburg consumer center
Although a similar award was also advertised for aubergines with "eg 350 g", the
Deutschlandfunk
still found this to be "legal".
The Price Indication Ordinance does not prescribe a minimum size for the basic price.
Together with Aldi Süd, the brother company wants to attack the competition on the side - it is the first time that the arch rivals have worked together.
This is not the first time that Aldi Nord has caused such confusion.
"With us, consumers repeatedly complain about the size of the basic price at Aldi Nord," explains Armin Valet from the Hamburg consumer center, referring to the price clarity maxim.
There is even a current warning from VZ against the food giant.
There were further inconsistencies in the price tags.
Aldi Nord: The competition center also criticizes discounters
In terms of font sizes, however, Aldi Nord does not act against regulations.
The Federal Court of Justice only requires a size of 2 mm.
The creation of a DIN standard had already been discussed, but this failed years ago.
By the way: Aldi is introducing a new system - customers could also benefit from this.
The competition center takes a critical view of the practice: "According to the Price Indication Ordinance, the price indications must correspond to the 'price clarity and price truth'", says managing director Peter Breun-Goerke.
The next few weeks will show whether Aldi will finally bow to the criticism.
