The humanitarian work of Sean Penn in Haiti during the devastated earthquake in Haiti in 2010 arrives on Discovery Plus. The streaming channel has in fact purchased 'Citizen Penn', whose preview will be broadcast on next May 6th.
The docu-film was written and directed by Don Hardy and produced by Hardy and Shawn Dailey and is an account of the actor's work at the forefront of helping the Haitian population.
Sean arrived on the island in the days immediately following the tragedy and with the intention of staying there for a couple of weeks, just long enough to distribute food and medicines.
Instead he stayed and created an organization called J / P HRO, later renamed CORE, which stands for Community Organized Relief Effort, which took on management duties for the largest displaced person camp in the country.
The Haiti earthquake caused 250,000 deaths and about 5 million displaced.
"From the climate, to conflict resolution, to poverty and to Covid-19 - Penn said in an official statement - citizenship requires more and more service. Service itself can be a bumpy road, but a road we all have to walk. Don Hardy has been running it with CORE (JP / HRO) for over a decade and I hope his cinema will find some form of inspiration for the viewer. It shows the good, the bad and the ugly. "
The film has an original soundtrack composed by Linda Perry as well as an original song 'Eden: To Find Love' written in collaboration with Bono and performed by the same U2 frontman.
Work in Haiti isn't Penn's only humanitarian commitment.
The actor also played a major role in establishing COVID testing in the United States and operating the nation's largest vaccination site at Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium.
The topic is covered in Citizen Penn.
