Protest morning by non-food vendors in Turin markets against the prolonged closure

for anti Covid regulations.

Among the events, the one organized in Santa Rita also saw the participation of numerous shopkeepers, including those of open businesses.

"We are all necessary", the sign on the banner waved by the demonstrators, about sixty in all;

"We want to work", the repeated slogan.

"We can not wait anymore".

The demonstrators met, on the spot, the municipal councilor for Commerce, Alberto Sacco.

"I was already here at 8 in the morning - he said - I hope you can reopen as soon as possible. Your situation is clear to us, I understand and I sincerely hope that we can return to orange. We have forwarded all your problems and requests to the prefect so that the Government is interested ".

Sacco was briefly interrupted by some street vendor who shouted "at 28 we won't get there, we will die first", then he was able to conclude his speech.

"Our powers are limited, Rome decides," added the commissioner.

The protest, under the control of the police, partially blocked Corso Orbassano.

The demonstration continued throughout the morning with a procession in the streets and squares of the neighborhood.

Many solidarity signs hung on shop windows with permission to keep open, where instead the shutters have been lowered.

"Behind every closed shop - said one speaker - there is a family that no longer has money to feed their children. Our business guarantees safe and clean streets, we pay taxes for school, for transport, for pensions ".

"You are an example, a responsible category that asks only to exercise a right: to be able to work".

Thus the president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto

Cirio

, meeting in Piazza Galimberti, in the center of Cuneo, the non-food vendors of the markets.

"It is right to ask for certain perspectives and times - adds the Piedmontese governor -. Rather than moratoriums and refreshments, it would be better to cancel a year of taxes. I will meet Prime Minister Mario Draghi and present your requests".

Protest of street vendors also in Piazza Duomo in Pistoia

, where they have set up a fake market with their vans, but without goods on display, to demonstrate against the failure to reopen the markets in the red zone.

"Our request is to be able to work - explained Antonio Gualtieri, spokesman for the peddlers of the Pistoia market -, because the refreshment points are not enough and not everyone arrives, so we absolutely need to work. 'open, so it is not clear why we must remain closed ".

For Gualtieri, "the problem, as far as refreshments are concerned, is that those who changed the company or who were previously stopped for other reasons, did not receive anything. For example, I am one of them: in 2019 I had rented the license to my wife, in 2020 I got it back, so for the purposes of refreshments it seems that I had no income in 2019 and 2020 and therefore I have not obtained anything ".

Another front is that of taxes that have not been frozen.

"I, like many others - concludes Gualtieri -, I paid 8 thousand euros of INPS and then all the other taxes, which unfortunately have not been suspended. Only the public land tax has been suspended by some municipalities or charged only one or two months, but everything else comes to pay as before the pandemic ".

"There will be openings, especially from May, perhaps something can be reopened as early as April 20", said

Gelmini

, Minister for Regional Affairs and autonomy to the States General of the Weddings and private events sector organized by Unanime, a confederation that collects associations of the supply chain.
