Covid-19: 433 dead in 24 hours, more than 5,700 patients in critical care

Production in France, rare side effects, vaccinodromes ... While the vaccination campaign livened up the day, the coronavir epidemic

A slim hope came, this Wednesday, from the hospital figures of the pandemic in Île-de-France, the most affected region.

For three days, the incidence rate, that is to say the number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants recorded over seven days, has been decreasing in the capital region.

A first since November.

As is the test positivity rate.

However, if the peak seems to have been reached - well above that of the second wave - the coronavirus has still made very strong progress in the country.

As evidenced by the data from Public Health France published this Wednesday evening.

There are 433 new deaths from the coronavirus in hospital (409 yesterday), bringing the total to 97,734 victims, at least.

After crossing the threshold of 30,000 hospitalizations yesterday, 3,131 people have still entered the hospital in the past 24 hours due to a Covid-19 infection.

A worrying figure that had not been observed since the peak of the second wave in November.

Thus, they are 30,904 hospitalized, including 5,729 in critical care services (against 5,626 yesterday), with 673 new admissions this Wednesday (632 yesterday).

Again, a record since last fall.

This is well beyond the second epidemic wave (+ 15%).

But these sharply rising figures could be attributed to the delay in reporting due to the three-day weekend.

So be careful.

13 million doses injected

So to try to curb the epidemic, we must vaccinate en masse.

Since Wednesday, France in turn produces Pfizer vaccines.

This production will be intended for the EU, which will redistribute, in the coming weeks, 15% to France.

In total, 250 million doses should be bottled in a factory in Eure-et-Loir in 2021, at least this is the objective given by Emmanuel Macron, the day after the symbolic opening of a giant vaccinodrome at the Stade de France.

In an attempt to reassure the French, among others, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which regulates marketing authorizations for the old continent, wanted to remind, on Wednesday, that the benefit / risk balance of AstraZeneca serum remains "positive".

However, the EMA considered that "a possible link with very rare cases of unusual blood clots with low blood platelets" could be established with the administration of the vaccine.

Despite the disenchantment of the French for this vaccine, 391,177 injections have been carried out in the past 24 hours.

In detail, 271,448 first doses and 119,729 second doses were delivered, according to data from the Directorate General of Health to be consolidated.

The threshold of 13 million injected doses has been crossed, with 13,160,429 doses (9,797,957 people having received the first and 3,362,472 both doses).

At this rate, the goal set by the government of 10 million first injections on April 10 (Saturday) should be reached on Thursday.
