As part of the second wave of coronavirus in Argentina, the mayor of La Plata, Julio Garro, announced the

reduction of hours

trading

, which now will be from 9 to 19 hours.

Although Garro assured that there was consensus with commercial representatives, the Federation of Entrepreneurs of La Plata protested because it indicates that it was not consulted by the authorities.

The restriction was announced this Wednesday by Julio Garro on his social networks and will apply to

non-essential retail stores

, except bars, restaurants, kiosks and service stations.

It had the approval of "representatives of the Shopping Centers," said the communal chief.

"I appreciate the gesture and commitment to avoid the increase in infections," he remarked on social networks.

Later, he gave more details of the agreement, in dialogue with TN.

"The presidents of the shopping centers asked me for an audience. They said they had the will to close at 19, because at 20 no one was in the shopping centers," Garro said.

"I listened to them, we agreed. I asked them if it did not affect the economy and if they were convinced," added the communal chief.

According to the official gazette, the municipal Coordination secretary, Oscar Negrelli;

the head of the Production area of the Commune, Rogelio Blesa;

in addition to the Asociación Amigos de Calle 12, the City Bell Chamber of Commerce;

and the Commercial Chamber of the Center.

However, business associations said they were left out of the dialogue table.

"It is a counterproductive measure, because commerce is not contagious," said Valentín Gilitchensky, according to the local newspaper El Día.

The merchants on 7th Street also protested that they had not been summoned.

In the last hours, the controls on public transport increased in La Plata and they went out to monitor strongly this morning the closure of the night activity, after a multiplication of coronavirus cases.

"There is a critical situation in hospitals of the AMBA and, especially, of La Plata, where the number of beds that are free are very scarce," denounced on Tuesday Pablo Maciel, president of the Union Association of Health Professionals of the Province of Buenos Aires (CICOP).

The Public Health Laboratory (LSP) of the School of Exact Sciences of the National University of La Plata reached the

record of positivity of 55 percent

of the samples corresponding to the district.

In addition, in the first minutes of Wednesday,

Garro had arranged to establish the closure of night activity at midnight

and prohibit artistic manifestations in bars and breweries.

"The balance of the first night was positive, given that we registered almost total compliance with the measures," they expressed from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Control.

Since this morning,

the municipality also reinforced prevention and disinfection operations in

public transport companies that provide service in the city and supervised compliance with the units that circulate through the Buenos Aires capital, the municipality reported.
