Isabella from Celle, who has been missing for around two weeks, has reappeared in France.
Police investigators from Celle identified the girl in France in the evening, the authorities said.
When asked, the investigators did not provide any information about the exact location, state of health or the circumstances of the disappearance.
Isabella is expected to return to Germany with her father on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the 16-year-old's father and police representatives went to the neighboring country to identify a girl discovered there.
In a first communication on Tuesday evening, the Lower Saxony police assumed that Isabella had "almost certainly been found."
A spokeswoman said there are still more investigations into the case.
More information is expected to follow on Thursday.
After days of unsuccessful search, the investigators recently feared that the high school student had become the victim of a violent crime.
