Ensure the Bavarians of sufficient doses to be vaccinated within a reasonable time against Covid-19: the conservative Minister-President of the Land of Bavaria Markus Söder announces that a "preliminary contract will be signed" on Wednesday.

In the event of a green light from the European Medicines Agency, the Bavarians will receive 2.5 million additional doses.

Unlike France, Germany wants rapid approval of Sputnik V, already used in around sixty countries.

In Europe, Hungary vaccinates its citizens with the Russian product.

Bavaria, the largest German Land, is the first regional state to announce such an order while the vaccination campaign is slipping in the country, due to the logistical organization but also to the number of doses available.

Russian pharmaceutical company R-Pharm has invested more than 30 million euros in a production site in Illertissen, a city east of Munich, according to Der Spiegel, the Bavarian Ministry of Health has announced.

R-Pharm had already announced investments in Illertissen in September.

At that time, however, it was mostly the Oxford vaccine, produced by AstraZeneca.
