Coronavirus: test record and case record, evidence of weakness in tracking

Two unpublished data for one day converge in a worrying diagnosis: all the Covid cases that exist and are not detected.

In Argentina there is an increasing overflow of coronavirus cases.

To say that the second wave is a fact already borders on the obvious.

With a record of tests this Thursday,

94,991

, the new record of

23,683 cases

was reached

.

The positivity was 24 percent, lower than Wednesday but just as serious.

The data only highlights the weakness of one of the most important policies against the pandemic

: testing and isolating.

In Argentina that is not happening

.

It happens the other way around:

As people feel the symptoms, it is about to be swabbed.

It is known, it is late.

They have already been in contact with other people to

multiply the infections.

At the same time, it must be taken into account that the more than 94 thousand tests this Thursday are

equivalent to double

, for example, what was tested every day of the last weekend.

That is, the rule of the number of cases directly proportional to that of swabs is repeated.

Contagions are and are everywhere: there are days when they are found more and others when they are found less.

The days you find them less are worse

, because more infected will continue to circulate without warning and transmit the virus to other people.

The lack of an active tracing policy in this sense puts our country back into the

trap of "quarantine"

without the counterweight of tests, which would shorten the time of confinement and give free rein to common sense:

that the sick be inside and the healthy outside.

But as long as that scheme does not work, all Argentines will continue to be

presumed infected with Covid

.

With the aggravating circumstance that confinements will surely not be successful enough to lower the contagion curve while detection and isolation are not enough.

Every day a

new psychological barrier

is broken

.

This time it was the 23 thousand cases of coronavirus.

According to the infectologist Roberto Debbag, that figure must always be multiplied by four (to be kind), with which the final account would be showing

more than 90 thousand real cases of Covid

in Argentina this Thursday, April 8.

One of the unknowns is how this uncontrollable avalanche of cases will affect in the coming weeks, on the number of patients who will need an

intensive care bed

and, ultimately, how many serious conditions will end in deaths.

The results of the restrictions that begin this Friday will only be appreciated after

approximately ten days

.

Then the Argentines will find out something important: if this new effort that today becomes necessary to lower the contagion curve has been worth it.

Or if the deficit of tests (while the vaccination progresses but slowly) puts the tail back in.
