Up to 30 million Germans have high blood pressure.
A healthy lifestyle can reduce the pressure in many cases.
Tea drinkers should keep the following in mind.
Blood pressure between 120/80 and 130/85 mmHg is considered normal.
If the values are above 140/90, doctors speak of high blood pressure.
Slightly increased values can usually
be lowered
through
stress reduction, a healthy diet, plenty of exercise and adequate sleep
.
Antihypertensive drugs such as beta blockers are used when the pressure exceeds 140/90 over the long term.
High blood pressure patients do well to drink black tea, a new study claims to have shown.
But only on one condition.
Black tea for high blood pressure: you should keep this rule in mind
In a study published on the specialist portal Pubmed, US and Danish researchers came to the conclusion that L-theanine, flavonoids such as catechin and polyphenols not only benefit the intestinal flora and brain health: two polyphenols contained in black tea also activate the gene KCNQ5, as the scientists inform.
KCNQ5 regulates neural activity and can lead to an expansion of blood vessels, as
informed by the
Fitbook
portal
.
It is said that a fact that could become important in the future, for example in the development of blood pressure regulating drugs.
But there is a catch:
if black tea is drunk with milk, it inhibits the activity of KCNQ5 and, accordingly, the expansion of the blood vessels.
The conclusion of the study leaders: People with high blood pressure should drink black tea more often, but leave out the milk.
The researchers emphasize: The activity of the KCNQ5 is only disturbed in direct combination with the black tea, according to
Fitbook
