(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, 08 APR - At 10 o'clock (9 o'clock in Italy) Israel stopped for two minutes at the sound of sirens in memory of the 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis and their accomplices.
Wherever they were, the Israelis stopped their activity: silently they stood up, bowing their heads in respect of the Memorial celebrated during the 'Yomha-Shoah', one of the most solemn days of pain and mourning on the national calendar.
Along the city arteries or the main ones of the country, traveling cars and even buses pulled over and the passengers came out putting themselves at attention.
In the memorial shrine of Yad Vashem in Jerusalem - where the main ceremony was held last night with 6 torches lit by as many survivors - the names of the Jews killed in the Shoah will be read for now while at the Knesset the parliamentarians remember their relative victims of the Nazis.
Commemoration ceremonies were also held in schools, public institutions and military bases.
This year the events planned for Yom ha-Shoah take place with the caption 'Until the last Jew: 80 years from the start of the mass hospitalization'.
About 175 thousand survivors live in Israel, 900 of them died in this period due to the covid.
