Damascus University and the Engineers Syndicate signed today a Memorandum of Understanding to develop joint scientific and professional cooperation in a way that contributes to linking the educational process outputs of engineering faculties with the needs of the local market and supporting the fields of research, training and knowledge dissemination.

According to the memorandum, cooperation includes all available engineering specializations, as joint seminars, workshops and conferences are organized between the two sides, the exchange of scientific and professional visits, lectures by university professors and specialists, and the investment of classrooms and laboratories on both sides in scientific activities, courses and examinations, with the possibility of organizing specialized courses for hire.

According to the memorandum, the colleges and engineering institutes at Damascus University contribute to the presentation of studies for the proposed projects that the Engineers Syndicate or its affiliated bodies carry out in a manner that does not contradict the law on practicing the profession at Damascus University.

The proposed projects in the branches of the Engineers Syndicate are nominated to be graduation projects for students of faculties and engineering institutes, according to their suitability to the conditions of recognized graduation projects. Studies, research and technical consultations that are assigned to the union are also nominated to be research for graduate students also according to their suitability to the conditions.

The Engineers Syndicate and its branches develop their capabilities and existing expertise and make them available to graduate students at Damascus University to benefit from them. Experience certificates granted to students of recent years in Faculties of Engineering are approved as a training practice (STAG) for a period of one or three months according to the type of engineering specialization, and certificates of following courses are approved for engineers. Granted by the faculties of engineering by the union.

The memorandum will enter into force after it is approved by the Higher Education Council and remain valid for a period of two years and may be renewed for a similar period after the written agreement of the two sides.

The President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdin pointed out the importance of the Syndicate's role in developing the outputs of engineering colleges in various specializations, indicating that this memorandum is an important opportunity that must be invested in developing cooperation between the two sides in the scientific and practical field.

In turn, the Engineers Syndicate, Dr. Ghayath Al-Qatini, affirmed the Syndicate’s readiness to implement the terms of the memorandum and its keenness to activate it on the ground, especially with regard to raising the scientific level of engineers and informing them of their rights and duties.
